Today was a great day for taking a Galaxie apart. I was able to get the driver's side door off, some of the trim molding, all of the engine parts; such as the alternator, power steering pump, carburetor, and fuel pump. But today I was able to get all the glass out of the Galaxie. Some issues today, were two bolts that I could not get off the front bumper brackets still on the bumper, and three body bolts that I could not get off? So I soaked them in wd-40 and will just have to see tomorrow if they come off.

The engine is all that is left in the front.

The parts are piling up.

Check out the door, but notice all the glass next to the door. Don't worry that John Deer has not moved in about 20 years.

I am getting to the point where all I will need to do is get the body off the frame, and then start working on sanding and straightening the body, and working on the frame. But I need to start working on buffing out all the trim parts.

Today was not a great day working on the Galaxie. I only worked about three hours, and really did not get much done? I was able to get the driver's side window off, and some trim parts. I did a little sanding to the hood, and removed some of the electrical wiring from the engine compartment. I took the dash gauges home and cleaned them up. The blue casing will be painted the same color as the exterior (metallic dark green).

Parts drying in the kitchen.

Some of the tools I will be using to sand the body, they are a long board, DA sander, sanding board, and an air hose.

I started sanding the hood today. If you notice to the right is what is called "guide coat". I covered the whole hood with it, and then started to the left sanding it off. I sanded it with 80 grit and then I will finish with 180 grit.

Today I felt like I made big gains on the Galaxie front end. I was able to remove both fenders, the tire wells, radiator, and the support, as well as the windshield wipers, heater box, and last but not least the dash.

This is the driver side front fender, notice the rust to the right. The passenger side is in good shape, but where the battery tray is located, is rusted out, and will need to be replaced.

This is a small video of where the dash once was, and will be again.

Today I was able to remove the bumper, grill, head lights, and wiring. But I was not able to get the radiator, radiator support, and a few other parts, because of some bolts that just refused to come off the Gakaxie. Hopefully after soaking over night in some WD-40, they will come off?

No problems getting the hood off. But when I get ready to put it back on. I will need two friends help with putting it back on. I took the letters off, that is just 46 years of dirt left behind. Eastwood products help with the job (table stand from Eastwood).

Here is the the gauge cluster out of the Galaxie (Check out the 120MPH).

I was able to get the dash parts removed, but I ran into a little problem. It seems that the vent pull knobs require a very very small allen wrench that I did not have with me. So tomorrow I think I can have the dash out.

I was able to get the seats out, as well as all the carpet, and all the sound matting. The windows took a lot to get out. I was only able to get two out, and there are three more to go. I think when it comes time to put the glass back in, I am going to pay someone to put them back in.

So I have the glass, the drivers door, and the dash to get out. Then I can start on the front end.

Air tools are cool... They also make life a little easier. I was able to get the back bumper off today before the rain came.

Notice the frame just below the body.

So today I was able to get the bumper off the Galaxie. It took more WD-40, a little bit of heat from a heat torch, and my air tools. The back end of the Galaxie is done with the tear down. I started working on the passenger side door, taking the window glass and components off. I was able to get all the parts off except for the vent window. One rusted on Phillips screw is keeping it on. Then the rain came and chased me off.
Tomorrow I am hoping to get the interior of the Galaxie out. Such as all the door panels, seats, carpet, all the glass, and the dash.
Next I will hit the front end, taking off the bumper, grill, head lights assemblies, and the left and right front corner panels. Then with the help of a few friends remove the body from the frame.

The Tear Down Starts

So I started the tear down today. I decided to start on the back and moved forward. I was able to remove the tail lights, trunk parts, chrome parts, and the gas tank with little trouble, the bumper was not so easy. The bumper bolts are all rusted, and I put a lot of WD-40 on them, and hopeful tomorrow I can get them off.

I vacuumed up all the broken glass inside, removed all the trim and the roof liner

I found the missing valve covers. They were inside on the floor under some bags?

So tomorrow the plan is to get that back bumper off, finish removing the rest of the interior out, and all the glass.
